Vents, rants, diatribes, and the musings of fools…

img_0787Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. ~Proverbs 13:3

If the serpent bites before it is charmed, there is no advantage to the charmer. The words of a wise man’s mouth win him favor, but the lips of a fool consume him. The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness, and the end of his talk is evil madness. A fool multiplies words, though no man knows what is to be, who can tell him what will be after him? ~Ecclesiastes 10:11-14

Sharing makes us vulnerable, allows others to see deep into our hearts, and opens floodgates! Sharing can build bridges and burn them down. Sharing can be a stimulus for healing or a force of destruction! What do your words on social media say about you?

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly. ~Proverbs 15:1-2

Do you season your words? Does your sharing bring glory to God? Are your words the musings of a fool, the diatribes of a haughty heart, or the rants of a bitter and self absorbed soul?

The vexation of a fool is known at once, but the prudent ignores an insult. Whoever speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness utters deceit. There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment. Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan peace have joy. No ill befalls the righteous, but the wicked are filled with trouble. Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight. A prudent man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools proclaims folly. ~Proverbs 12:16-23

We will all face struggles! Sharing our struggles and confessing our sins are both essential to our walk with God! This life is full of beauty, yet suffering is still a part of the human experience. For our journey, God provides beautiful gifts in His word and His family! When His word is preached, when hearts are filled with love and forgiveness, when grace and truth are sought, struggles will be overcome.

The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer,
but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things. The Lord is far from the wicked,
but he hears the prayer of the righteous. The light of the eyes rejoices the heart,
and good news refreshes the bones. The ear that listens to life-giving reproof
will dwell among the wise. Whoever ignores instruction despises himself,
but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence. The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor. ~Proverbs 15:28-33

Some of us will experience traumatic events. Some of us will be victims of mistreatment, slander or even crimes. Some will face these struggles with grace and beauty. Some will allow their suffering to become a catalyst for growth. Sadly others will allow their struggles to embitter them, they will abandon truth and goodness and seek the wisdom of the world.

You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. ~Matthew 12:34-37

I have seen the beauty of a tortured soul seeking God and the ugliness of a tortured soul enveloped in hate. There is hope for both of them. Christ sacrificed His life for sinners, for tortured souls, for seekers–only He can heal the broken. He can heal broken bodies, broken hearts, broken families, and shattered souls.

So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. ~James 3:5-9

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. ~James 3:13-18
